Colleagues put their best foot forward to raise thousands for charity

More than 40 employees at Yorkshire-based asset disposal specialist BPI are taking on a 24-mile walking challenge this October, raising money for two charities chosen by the team.
On Friday 16 October, BPI employees will take on part of the Wakefield Way, walking approximately 24 miles in a company-wide fundraising challenge for Ataxia UK and St James’s Intensive Care Unit in Leeds.
The challenge is the latest in a series of fundraising initiatives led by BPI employees. Previous company-wide challenges have included raising nearly £13,000 through the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, almost £5,000 through a fitness challenge and more than £8,000 through a Million Step Challenge – all raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Following the success of those challenges, the BPI team is hoping to raise a similar amount through this year’s event.

The two charities were chosen by BPI employees because both have a direct connection to the families of colleagues at the company. Ataxia has had a direct impact on the family of one BPI employee, while the Intensive Care Unit at St James’s University Hospital provided care for the son of another colleague. This personal connection made both causes particularly meaningful choices for the team.
Ataxia UK is the UK’s leading charity supporting people affected by ataxia, a group of rare neurological conditions. The charity provides information, advice and support to people living with ataxia and their families, while also funding research into treatments and potential cures.

The second beneficiary is the Intensive Care Unit at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, which provides specialist care for critically ill patients. The unit is part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, making the fundraising particularly relevant to the Yorkshire community in which many BPI employees live and work.
For BPI, the challenge is about giving employees the opportunity to get behind causes they have chosen themselves while making a positive contribution to the wider community.

David Boulton, Managing Director of BPI said: “Once again, our employees have really got behind the idea of doing something together to raise money for charity. The fact that the team chose the charities themselves makes this challenge particularly meaningful, and we’re hoping to build on the fantastic fundraising efforts we’ve seen from previous challenges.

“We’re incredibly proud of what our people have achieved so far, and with more than 40 colleagues taking part this time, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone get behind the challenge. It’s a great opportunity to raise as much money as we can for two important causes while giving something back to the communities around us.”
BPI hopes the challenge will once again bring its employees together behind a shared cause while raising a significant amount for two charities chosen by the team.
