Member news: Local RSPCA provide care for 2 dogs rescued from house of horror

Apr 29, 2025

Last week, on the outskirts of Tickhill, Doncaster, over 80 dogs were rescued from horrifying conditions in Tickhill, Doncaster – a case that’s made national news and shocked the country. The local RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford Branch has taken in 2 of the dogs rescued from this horrific conditions, 2 year old Katy & Megan.

The Animal Centre Team have described them as “utterly broken, frozen with fear, emotionally shattered, and terrified of every sound and movement” in one of the most harrowing cases the charity have seen this year.

Fay Gibbons, Marketing & Communications Officer for the branch said “These poor girls have endured unimaginable suffering, but we’re so relieved they’re now safe with us. Katy and Megan have a long journey ahead, but our team is doing everything possible to help them heal and rebuild their trust.”

“Right now, our focus is solely on their health and wellbeing. Rehabilitation will take time, and it may be several weeks before they’re ready for adoption – but what matters most is that they’re finally free from the horrific conditions they were rescued from — and when the time comes, they’ll know what it feels like to be truly safe and loved.”

Providing the most basic care for Katy and Megan will cost the charity a minimum of £800 — and that’s before any extra medical or behavioural support. On top of this, the self-funded local charity is currently caring for a record-high 124 animals and are calling on the local community to help by donating to Katy and Megan’s recovery journey.

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch are a self-funding branch of the National RSPCA, responsible for raising money locally to support our animal welfare work.  Last year the branch rehomed nearly 400 animals and our main aim is to rehabilitate unwanted, abandoned and abused animals and find them loving, permanent homes. We rely on public donations and the generosity of our local community to keep the doors of our animal centre open.
