Eaton Smith Solicitors is delighted to announce that Farrar Bamforth Architecture Ltd has been chosen by the judging panel as the latest winner of its Business of the Month Award.
Farrar Bamforth Architecture Ltd is a firm of architectural technologists offering a range of services to commercial, residential, and domestic markets across the whole of the UK. This includes architectural design, planning, surveying, land sourcing and disposal, building regulations, project management, and principal designer services.
The company was founded in 1976 by John Farrar and Elon Bamforth. Having worked together at two Huddersfield companies, Stevenson’s Developments and then Marshalls, John formed his own business in 1974 and then approached Elon to join him two years later; creating Farrar Bamforth Associates.
Tony Bowling joined the business in 1999. In 2010, he recognised opportunities to explore larger scale, commercial markets, such as industrial projects and residential developments, and seek out work beyond Yorkshire. Full of ambition and ideas, Tony set about expanding the offering of the business and securing new projects and clients.
This was a turning point for the business, which went from strength to strength as they tipped the scale from domestic projects to commercial and cultivated client loyalty to win repeat business, often with multi-site industrial businesses.
Additionally, Tony is celebrating 25 years at the company this month.
Tony Bowling, Managing Director of Farrar Bamforth Architecture Ltd, commented: “We tend to be quite bashful and not great at blowing our own trumpet so when Eaton Smith suggested we should enter, we were very flattered. Being chosen this month feels like a testament to the evolution of the business over the last couple of years with a move to new premises, a new website, and some significant new projects. We have more exciting developments coming soon so it really does feel like a new phase for Farrar Bamforth, and this kind of recognition is a great boost”.
James Burgess, Partner at Eaton Smith Solicitors, and member of the judging panel commented; ”The judges were particularly impressed at Farrar Bamforth’s approach to the ongoing investment in their people and encouraging staff to play an active role in the development and growth of the business. Farrar Bamforth also provides an impressive level of support to the local community, in particular as a proud sponsor of The Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation, supporting the inclusion teams in Learning Disability Rugby League, Physical Disability Rugby League and wheelchair rugby league”.
Farrar Bamforth describe themselves as a proud Yorkshire company, who provide services to clients across the country. They are a worthy winner of this month’s award and they now move forward as a finalist at the Business of the Year Awards on 27 June 2025.”
Ben Jackson chaired the judging panel and was joined by Martin Hathaway (Mid Yorkshire Chamber), Annie Bradley (Department for Business & Trade) and Rachel McDerby (Mid Yorkshire Chamber).
