Member news: Grant a wish for an animal spending Christmas in rescue

Dec 18, 2023

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & DistrictBranch are currently experiencing one of their busiest December’s on record. As the cost-of-living crisis continues, the local rehoming Centre are doing all they can to care for the ever-increasing number of animals arriving through their doors, all in desperate need of care, rehabilitation and loving homes.

Each year the independently funded animal charity hopes that their Christmas Appeal will encourage the local community to grant Christmas wishes for the many cats, dogs and small furries in their care – with this year being no exception.

Fay Gibbons of the local RSPCA centre explains “Our annual Christmas appeal is vital in helping us make the festive season as happy as possible for the animals who sadly don’t have a loving home of their own. It also helps us provide life-saving veterinary treatment, vaccinations, food, medication and much more to our furry residents.

“This year our appeal is more important than ever before. We have never seen such a busy winter season. It’s a daunting prospect for our hard-working Animal Care Team who are doing all they can to ensure we help as many animals as possible. You can grant a wish from as little as £1 on our website and every penny raised will directly support our Centre.

Our appeal is unique as donors get to choose an animal of their choice to grant a wish for! Each animal has a wish counter and we’re hopeful that every animal will have a wish granted for them by December 25th.

There’s truly nothing better than giving the gift of love at Christmas time, a feeling that sadly many of our animal residents may have never experienced before. We’re determined to change this and with a small donation our supporters can be a part of this change too.’’

To donate to the appeal online visit or . Alternatively, you can purchase wish tickets, (the perfect stocking filler for animal lovers) at any of the 8 RSPCA charity shops across Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and in their Wade Street Animal Centre.

So far this year, the RSPCA branch has successfully found homes for 81 dogs, 194 cats and 44 small animals and they hope that with the support of the local community, they can give all the animals currently waiting to be adopted the best Christmas possible. All donations will be gratefully received, after what has been an extremely difficult year for the local RSPCA Centre.
“The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch are a self-funding branch of the National RSPCA, responsible for raising money locally to support our animal welfare work. Our main aim is to rehabilitate unwanted, abandoned and abused animals and find them loving, permanent homes. We rely on public donations and the generosity of our local community to keep the doors of our animal centre open.”
