Students achievements recognised with award ceremonies

Jul 10, 2023

Students from Castleford College and Wakefield College ended the academic year on a high with a number of student award ceremonies.

The academic achievements of Animal Care, Automotive & Engineering, Construction, FLEX, Hair & Beauty, Hospitality & Catering and T Level students were recognised as part of the end-of-year award presentations.

Seven ceremonies were held within curriculum areas, with awards given to both the highest achieving students and the most improved.

Winners of the Automotive & Engineering and Construction awards were also presented with prizes donated by award sponsors.

CITB, Caddick Construction Limited and Promoting Construction West Yorkshire kindly sponsored the Construction awards, with Core Diagnostics – Remote Diagnostics, DENSO, Heat Exchange Group, Siemens, Halfords and VARTA AG, generously sponsoring the Automotive & Engineering awards.

Sam Wright, Principal and Chief Executive at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: “The end of the academic year is always a joyous time as we get to celebrate and acknowledge the academic and personal achievements of our students. It’s been incredibly uplifting to see how they have progressed throughout the year – whether that’s overcoming barriers they faced, learning something new, or showing enthusiasm and commitment to their studies. They should all be extremely proud of themselves and what they’ve achieved.”

Celebrating the accomplishments of its first cohort of T Level students, the Group hosted a ‘T Party’ which was attended by students, T Level industry placement partners and colleagues from the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group.

A range of awards were presented to T Level students in Design, Surveying & Planning for Construction; Health, Education & Early Years; Maintenance, Installation & Repair for Engineering & Manufacturing; and Management & Administration.

Joe Mudd, T Level Management & Administration student, who has carried out an industry placement with WDH, said: “I’m over the moon to have won the Management & Administration T Level Student of the Year award and to have my hard work recognised by my tutors and my T Level industry placement partner, WDH. Being able to apply what I’m learning in the classroom into real-life settings at my placement has really helped my development and allowed me to expand my knowledge.”

T Levels are new qualifications which have been designed alongside employers, enabling students to get a head start in their chosen industry or career.

Equivalent to three A Levels, T Levels combine classroom theory, practical learning and a 45-day industry placement which enables students to gain experience of the workplace.

In addition to T Levels, the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group offers a range of post-16 courses for school leavers including A Levels, Vocational courses and Apprenticeships.
